Web pirouette: Towers, deserts and sushi

Thoughts from the keyboard of Amanda this week:
  • Some of the world's most famous places might seem like tourist kitsch yet are still worth visiting: the Eiffel Tower is one of them, in my books.
  • But the opposite - endlessly empty stretches of the Sahara Desert in southern Tunisia - are even better.
  • Speaking of Paris (well, I was a bullet point ago); a friend told us that baguettes are not actually French, and the next day a news report confirmed it (thanks, Rodrigo!).
  • People to see: visitors to Vienna might be curious about the strict boarding house lives of the members of the Vienna Boys' Choir.
  • And on the hotel scene, I discovered that Jesus makes sushi in Dubrovnik.
