C'mon Aussie c'mon!

You might remember last week how excited I was when Australia beat Japan in their first round World Cup game. That was nothing on the excitement last night when we drew with Croatia 2-2: this draw left us second in our group (behind Brazil) and put us through to the next round!

Heilbronn itself isn’t exactly full of Aussies, so Meredith (pictured) and I literally waved the flag for Oz at the nearby Theresienwiese’s “Fan Village”, where what we saw on the big screen severely disappointed the crowds of Croatians (apparently 40,000 of them live in and around Heilbronn) but thrilled the two of us and one other lone Australian flag waver. Oh, and the chatty Heilbronn policeman whose aunt and uncle live in the Blue Mountains near Sydney was pretty pleased too.

Now it’s on and up to the round of 16, and at 5pm (German time) on Monday we’ll play a sudden death clash with Italy. Keep everything crossed for us!

  1. OK, Italy beat us. Just. Worst part was we watched it in the company of Italians. Since Australia lost I had to wear an Italian shirt for the rest of the evening. That's all I want to say about that.

I love to hear from you ...
