A roof obsession

I blame the never-ending presence of scaffolding on the Stephansdom in Vienna for my obsession with a particular kind of tiled roof, found now and again on churches and town halls around Europe. I’ve always wanted a closer look at the beautiful tiles on the cathedral in Vienna but even with more than half a dozen visits spread over almost three years, I’ve never had the chance to enjoy it sans scaffold. A good second-best came from clambering around the towers of the M√ľnster in Basel. I’d like to claim the analogy myself, but a friend very aptly described this roof pattern as reminding him of crocodile skin.
